Course Description

Learn how to create 2D animations with photoshop layers in After Effects. This course covers how to import photoshop files into After Effects, explains basic key framing techniques and teaches how to use simple camera tricks to create Z-space and 2D animations within a 2.5D space. Create fun and creative 2D-Animations and add this extra skill set to your portfolio!

Session 1: Preparing Files in Photoshop (December 26, 2024)
Students will be introduced to 2D animations and expectation for the micro class will be set. They will learn how to work in photoshop and navigate through the basic interface to efficiently and creatively prepare files for animating in AE.

Session 2: Importing Photoshop Files in AE (January 2, 2025)

Students will learn how to import their Photoshop files into AE. They will learn basic key framing techniques and navigation tools in AE to build effective 2D animations.

Session 3: Animating Cameras In After Effects (January 9, 2025)
Students will learn about basic cameras in AE. They will learn how to create Z space within a 2D space to create a 2.5D effect, somewhere between 2D and 3D space. Students will learn how to key frame cameras to create 2D animation effects.

Session 4: Animating Other Objects in After Effects (January 16, 2025)
Students will learn to animate individual objects composited in AE. They will learn how to make 2D drifting effects, wave effects, how to add solid backgrounds to their compositions and they will also learn how to add particle footage to their composition to make everything look fluid and creative.

Session 5: How to Export your Animations (January 23, 2025)
Students will learn how to export their animations into mp4 files. This file can be used for updating or uploading into their portfolios. Students will learn how to use Media Encoder to export their animations.
