Climate Case Studies

Rachael Jacobs is a teaching artist who works across the three artworks of dance, drama and music. She engages in projects mostly based in communities of colour in Sydney, Australia. She has worked with migrant and refugee communities, hospitals and women's refuges. From 2017 to 2019, she was a teaching artist with Sydney Theatre Company, teaching English through drama to newly arrived migrants and refugees in Western Sydney. She implemented a teaching artists curriculum for the Tasmanian Department of Education, using Drama to improve language development.

Rachael trained in contemporary dance, then developed her own practice in Indian dancing brining her family heritage into her dance work. She founded three Indian dance companies in Australia and continues to work with Indian and South Asian communities to create new art and transformational dance. Rachael is a Creative Arts Lecturer at Western Sydney University and an active arts researcher. For the last 10 years Rachael has been an arts activist, harnessing the power of dance, drama and music to create shifts in public thinking.

Razcel (Ra’z) Jan Salvarita is a multi-disciplinary artist, creative activist and founder of Baryo Balangaw Creative Initiatives in the Philippines.

In 2018, Ra’z presented a TEDx Talk on “Artivism: Effecting Environmental Consciousness through Art”. His impact in the local and international eco-artivism has brought him to a deeper sense of commitment to becoming a Teaching Artist and integrating creative awakening to supplement practices that supports behavioral and perspective change among communities specifically in the grassroots. He has represented the Philippines in two United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COP11/Montreal-Canada and COP13/Bali-Indonesia) where he was one of the climate artist campaigners and environmental journalists. 

Francine Kliemann is an interdisciplinary artist and theatre maker, located in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

She holds a BA in Theatre at UFRGS (Brazil, 2011) and MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths University of London (UK, 2017). She has undertaken further training with ODIN Teatret, LISPA, Complicite, David Glass, Melanie Wilson, among others.

She is the co-founder of the immersive theatre company Teatro Geográfico (Brazil) and the start-up PLATÔ Cultural (UK/Brazil)

Jadranka Andjelic is the co-founder of Dah Theater Research Center. She has collaborated with Teatret OM (Denmark) and was the Artistic Director of MAPA Serbia, (Mobile Academy of Performance Arts, Amsterdam-Netherlands.) She was the selector at the International Festival of New and Alternative Theater- INFANT, in Novi Sad-Serbia, in 2009 and 2010. From 2008 to 2019, Jadranka lived and worked in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she created performances and organized festivals with SEQUÊNCIA FILMES, MÚSICAS E CÊNICAS, and was Artistic Director of the International Festival of Women in Scenic Art– MULTICIDADE in Rio de Janeiro, 2015 and 2018. 

Jadranka was winner of the ARTSLink scholarship in the USA, New York, and won the Otto Rene Castillo Award in New York-USA for engaged theatre (with Dijana Milosevic and DAH Theater) in 2007, and the ERSTE Foundation INTEGRATION Award for the project In/Visible City, DAH Theater Research Center, 2009. With her performances and workshops, she has toured across the Europe as well as Brazil, Greenland, Mongolia, Morocco, New Zealand, the USA, Singapore and Great Britain.
